Alhamdulillah, I’ve been featured on New Sunday Times yesterday, alongside Top 50 Global Teacher Prize finalists, Dr Mandejit Singh & Yasmin Amin. I talked about the use of technology in teaching and learning in Malaysian schools. I believe that technology and innovation play pivotal role in education today. However, I believe it will never replace the role of a teacher but amplify their presence and optimize learning possibilities via multitude of online tools and platforms. Through virtual learning platforms, social media, blogging, MOOCs and flipped classroom, teachers could learn and share their ideas, thoughts and projects with others beyond the classroom boundaries. For instance, via blogging, tweeting and online community of practice, I am able to engage and network with educators all over the world and share my students’ projects online. Technology is the catalyst in shifting the role of teachers in providing multiplier impacts of global education.
Last Friday, I was invited by Astro Awani for a 30-minute interview on Analisis Awani, a talk show that discusses the current issues pertaining to local and global affairs. I shared my experience attending Global Education & Skills Forum in Dubai recently and discusses the issues, ideas and future trends of global education landscape. Honestly, I was a bit anxious as there was no script whatsoever and the questions were prompted as the interview was recorded so whatever that came from my mind was spontaneous and I had to be quick on my wit and responses. I shared my views on MOOCs from the perspective of a doctoral researcher, as well as my experience being a teacher and edu tech practitioner.
The topic of my slot is “Mengharmonikan teknologi dan pendidikan” which means Harmonizing technology and education. I feel the topic was apt and close to my heart as I believe technology is catalytic in scaffolding engaging teaching and learning experience. It’s about time we highlight how teachers and educators worldwide have been fervently using technological tools in their lessons. I think it’s no more the issue of lack of technological tools but the abundance and information overload issue amongst netizens. Hence, it is pertinent that knowledge management skills are enforced in schools to ensure the students and teachers are able to manage the ubiquitous technology to their advantages.
On air. Thanks Nazri Kahar for compering such engaging discussion.

The Johor Student Leaders Council (JSLC) of cohort 5 is proud to announce the 3rd Johor International Student Leaders Conference (JISLC) to be held on April 27 and 28, 2015, at KSL Hotel & Resort, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia.
The objective of this internationally scaled conference is to be an instrument for secondary school student leaders between ages of 13-18 throughout the globe to meet, engage and exchange diverse views, ideas and perspectives on global challenges with aspiring peers through a global platform, participating in a rich tapestry of cross-cultural educational environment.
In today’s world, the 21st century, with globalization occurring at a drastic pace around the world, youth empowerment is imminent as the Generation Y and Z have to shoulder the largest of responsibilities to ensure that cross-cultural visions and leadership qualities could be performed proactively without conflicts; to adapt to different leadership skills and abilities by being global change agents. Young leaders also play a distinctive role in preserving and improving bilateral and multilateral relationships amongst countries; to forge a strong bond between nations and develop as one whole community albeit racial, religious or status barriers.
“The voice of the younger generation has helped generate a major shift in global mindset. Today, I ask you to be architects of a better world. Help us respond to the urgency of our global challenges and build a better tomorrow.”

The international training module for Johor Student Leaders Council (JSLC) kickstarted with the Seoul-Johor International Student Leadership Camp. Seoul, South Korea was the destination for the first leadership training where we collaborated with Camp Korea for this initiative. Thanks Jay and Dave for making this possible!
10 JSLs were chosen to attend the leadership camp where we spent 14 days at Seoul English Village in Suyu as the base camp for the leadership training. The first challenge that the JSLs and the officers had to face is the chilly weather. The first day greeted us with -5 degree Celsius compared to toasty 29 degree Celsius back in Johor!
