Yesterday, I successfully conducted SPM English Language Writing Workshop at SMK Dato’ Penggawa Barat, a high performing school in Pontian, my hometown. I was elated to be here as this is the first school that I was posted to in 2001, hence the sentimental value. Back then, the school is categorised as Smart School where each teacher was provided a laptop and LCD projector to aid in teaching & learning. How I miss that! Being a young teacher, I was eager in developing my own materials. This is where it all started.
The students were very attentive, there were 150 students altogether and we did a lot of hands-on writing activities where the focus was on writing styles and techniques. Rather than giving writing questions, I focussed more on ways to steer away from writer’s block and effective writing management.
Thank you for inviting me. The best part was getting feedback from my former student, Dr. Mok Chi Wei that his sister attended my session and enjoyed the workshop! Chi Wei was in the school debating team and I coached him and his friends in the state competition. He’s now a successful medical doctor. I’m so glad I could give back to my community by sharing my knowledge and experience with the teachers and students.

I’m grateful to be the recipient of the best presenter award for IRCIE 2016 which was held from 18-20 October 2016. I presented on my research on MOOCs Sustainability in UTM. The award was presented later as I had to rush to the Ministry of Youth & Sports to receive the HSN Challenge Yourself Grand Prize from the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB KJ. Definitely a motivation to keep on learning and improving myself as an orator and researcher.

“Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out” – Robert Collier
I took part in HSN Challenge Yourself a month ago and I never knew how it would change my life. It is a fitness competition where Malaysians log in their fitness journey via social media based from the criteria listed out by Ministry of Youth & Sports Malaysia. It is held in conjunction with Hari Sukan Negara or National Sports Day. As a full-time teacher and a part-time PhD student, it is challenging and demanding to juggle these responsibilities ontop of family life. Hence, I started running and changed my dietary lifestyle so I can be healthier and fitter. I am elated that for this challenge, I managed to lose 10.6 kg and took part in 3 official running events. I learned to count calories, eat wisely and sustain my running activities.
From walking to running, from 116kg to 83 kg, from 2 km to 452km mileage in 4 months. Balanced meal & consistent training. It all started from the first step. I annotate my fitness journey on my Instagram account. I’m glad I have received many messages and e-mails from people who are motivated to kickstart their own fitness journeys. It is never too late to start!
I am definitely humbled and elated for being one of the grand prize winners. The icing on the cake is getting the prizes and meeting YB Khairy Jamaluddin or YB KJ who I idolize, a man that encompasses brain and brawn. Thank you Brooks Malaysia and Garmin Malaysia for sponsoring the prizes. This is a bonus for my my fitness journey and definitely not the end. I hope that this will inspire others to start or keep up with your active lifestyle. Alhamdulillah!
